On June 11, Chen Chong, Vice President of the Chinese Wushu Association and Deputy Director of the Wushu Center of the General Administration of Sport, and Li Yongqiang met with Finnsio, President of the Swedish Kung fu & Wushu Federation. The two sides held in-depth discussions on strengthening Wushu exchanges and jointly expanding Wushu’s influence.
During the meeting, Finnsio provided a detailed overview of Wushu’s development in Sweden. He stated that after years of effort, Wushu has established a solid foundation among the general public in Sweden, with a steady increase in the number of clubs and enthusiasts, and a steady improvement in competitive levels. This year, an athlete qualified for the Dakar Youth Olympic Games, marking a breakthrough. Furthermore, the Nordic International Wushu Competition, initiated by the Swedish Wushu Federation, has been held for seven consecutive years, attracting athletes from various countries to compete in Sweden.
Finnsio expressed his sincere gratitude to the Chinese Wushu Association for sending a delegation to Sweden to guide the training camp. He stated that the professional, meticulous teaching by the Chinese expert team effectively improved the athletes’ skills and expanded Wushu’s reach and appeal in the region. He expressed hope for future medium- and long-term projects, mutual visits for training and competition, and further expansion of cooperation.
Vice Chairman Chen Chong warmly welcomed Finnsio’s visit and fully affirmed the significant progress Swedish Wushu has made over the years. He pointed out that Wushu originated in China but belongs to the world, and the promotion of Wushu cannot be separated from the active participation of every Wushu practitioner. Wushu offers rich fitness benefits and cultural significance, serving as a unique bond for people-to-people exchanges. In recent years, Sweden has successfully hosted international Wushu events, including the 19th European Wushu Championships and the Nordic Open Wushu Championships, thereby enhancing its regional influence and contributing positively to the international promotion of Wushu.
