On the afternoon of June 26, Zhang Yuping, Secretary-General of the International Martial Arts Federation, warmly met with the visiting Swedish Kung fu & Wushu President Peter Finnsio and his delegation in Beijing. Both sides held in-depth exchanges on the development of wushu in Sweden and Europe, the bidding process for related International Wushu events, and the recent positive progress of wushu on the international stage.
During the meeting, Secretary-General Zhang Yuping praised the Swedish Martial Arts Association’s efforts to promote martial arts in Sweden and even across Europe. She stated that the Swedish Martial Arts Association is a very important member association between the International Martial Arts Federation and the European Martial Arts Federation. In recent years, the Swedish Martial Arts Association has actively organized domestic competitions, greatly promoting martial arts activity in Sweden and contributing to the unity of the martial arts family. She warmly introduced the recent gratifying achievements of the International Martial Arts Federation in promoting martial arts internationally.
This October, Wushu will debut as an official competition event at the Dakar Youth Olympic Games, marking a milestone in Wushu’s development. Meanwhile, wushu has been successfully included as an official event at the 2029 World Games in Germany. Through these important, comprehensive event platforms, Wushu will continue to gain experience in organizing and participating in competitions, fully showcasing the event’s unique charm and laying a solid foundation for broader international promotion in the future.
Swedish Martial Arts Association President Finnsio stated that Sweden attaches great importance to the development of martial arts, is actively participating in this year’s European Championships, and is contributing to the organization of the event and other aspects. In recent years, Sweden has built new venues with well-developed infrastructure and supporting facilities, and looks forward to further deepening cooperation with the International Wushu Federation, striving to host high-level international martial arts events and to jointly promote the development of martial arts in Europe and globally.
The talks took place in a friendly atmosphere. After the event, the International Martial Arts Federation presented souvenirs to the Swedish Martial Arts Association and took a group photo as a memento. Representatives from the General Affairs Department and Membership Department of the International Martial Arts Federation accompanied the meeting.
